Siran wines are produced on sandy, gravelly soils and are typical Margaux grands crus. Powerful and refined, they strike a balance between tannins, fruit and acidity. The grape varieties are quite distinctive for the appellation: 46 % Merlot , 40 % Cabernet Sauvignon , 13 % Petit Verdot and 1 % Cabernet Franc.
Chateau Siran
Margaux
Siran is an important wine in the Margaux. Owned by the Miailhe family, who have been wine merchants since the mid-19th century, Siran was once owned by Toulouse-Lautrec's grandparents. It is currently the fifth generation to manage the property, represented by Edouard Miailhe since 2007. Note that, before the arrival of Edouard Miailhe, the bottles were illustrated with an original artistic work. Small (25 hectares) but with a beautiful terroir, the vineyard of Siran is located on a soil composed of gravel and pebbles; the wine has the particularity of containing a high proportion of Petit Verdot in the blend each year (up to 15 % in some vintages). The result is strong color and sustained length on the palate. Siran is produced with very traditional techniques, both in the vineyard and in the winery. Siran's wines are powerful and develop intense aromas of red and black currants. By aging for 15 months in oak barrels, the wine acquires an imposing tannin structure that makes it suitable for long storage. The 2003 revision of the Cru Bourgeois classification gave Siran the coveted title of Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. This distinction is no longer valid today after complaints that led to the discontinuation of the classification, but it remains a testament to the quality of this wine which is an excellent representative of the classic elegance of Margaux.
